Bricks, Bricks and more Bricks...

So some of you may or may not know that my Sister and parents are going halvesies in a new build (also with Beechwood) up at Chisholm. Anyway one weekend we decided to all traipse up to Beresfield as the two brick suppliers were up there. Austral & PGH.

So we walked into the first one, PGH, and boy that was an interesting experience. We walked it and it felt like i was diseased or something...
We walked in... wandered around and then walked straight out without getting a hello or any sort of acknowledgement at all. We went out into the yard but it can be a bit confusing trying to figure out which ones are standard and which ones are an upgrade. To be honest - I am not a fan of Beechwood's standard PGH range... Its all red and yellow colours which is so far from the grey tones i am after. We eventually got the attention of someone (after my dad went back inside and said hello - we need help!) They pointed out to us they standard range and then ran away back inside. At any rate we very quickly decided that we were not a fan and so promptly left.

Juyst down the road is Austral and boy is this a completely different experience. From the moment you walk in you get a super cheery HELLO! and immediately they come out from around the desk to greet us and ask if we needed any help.

I must say Lorenzo and i we have some very opposing views at times but we both walked out that the Austral Yard and pretty much immediately agreed on the same brick!

We both instantly fell in love with the Whitsunday Brampton. It suited the roof we had already decided on (Colorbont - Monument) and seemed to be the perfect brick. One thing i loved about Austral is that they have this fantastic room whereby you can take a sample of the brick/s you like and they also have a list of homes in surrounding suburbs who have used the chosen brick so you can see it. This is an amazing idea as it is one thing to see it in the brick yard but it is another to see it as a whole house with a roof, windows and doors.

You see my predicament is the brick i loved so much in the yard... i HATED when i saw it on the houses!!

ITS TOO BROWN!! :( :( :(

So now we are back to square one!

and here i was thinking the hard decisions were over...

decisions... decisions... decisions... and here i was thinking the hard decisions were done with...

thats a big fat NOPE!

So after you make that first one you then end up with a giant envelope full of different flyers showing all the different things you have to decide... oh boy what did i get myself in for!

So now we have brick colours, roof colours, gutters, facias, windows, doors, wall colours, kitchen bench colours, cabinet colours, bathroom tiles, floor tiles, and the list goes on. When you buy an existing house all this hard stuff is done for you. you go in, decide if you like the place and if so you buy it...  here i have a piece of paper which shows what the floorplan will be and i have to imagine all the colours and textures together.

So now it comes to the long process of beginning to select colours that we both like and that will go together. I have somehow subconsiously decided that the entire house will be grey tones but that is about all.

Once piece of advise that i will give to other going through this... whoever your suppliers are that you can select through, go and see them in person. Don't rely on the pamphlets or what you can see on their websites. Order samples, visit brick yards, compare them all.

next up... I'll take you through the decision process...

And the decision is...

So after much discussion and going back and forth many times Lorenzo and i have made the decision to sign on with Beechwood homes. It came down to the fact that we were familiar with Beechwood through my sister building a beautiful home with them last year, the fact that we had to do limited changes to the floorplan and finally that it was within budget.

There were features of both Beechwood and Mojo that i loved and simply it came down to the fact that less had to be changed and the fact that we got an extra toilet!

So welcome to the floorplan of our new home!

We are building the Bordeaux 5 with the Pavillion 3 Facade. We have elected to include Colorbond Steel roof and include the Genesis indulgence package giving us features such as Caesarstone Benchtops, double vanity in the ensuite and 900mm gas kitchen appliances. FYI... this is what it looks like with colour... just imagine the walls and garage a darker grey!

So now we are waiting for our land to settle... i may have more patience than my sister but this my try me...
